I always liked that film - even though I always thought they should have taken the Kenneth More character to the sauna to thaw. I remember reading WIlliam Shirer's ​The Sinking of the Bismark​ as a kid. I still have the book in my library.  When I was in Belgium I discovered Airfix models and set out to build every ship involved in the battle to recreate it; kind of like my lifelong project to recreate the Alamo (and other historic events).

One of the most accurate war films ever turned out.  They got the ships' names and movements correct except for the extra British destroyer blow up in the night torpedo attack.  Several of Vians destroyers were holed but none seriously.  On one hand I would like to see "Sink the Bismarck" remade with modern CGI, but I cringe at the thought of the current crop of screen writers ruining the story.  The real story had a lot of drama, spies, searches, an uncertain outcome until the last 24hrs.
