I would imagine it was just the USA. as they reacted allegedly to Polands frontier incursions and, then Britain and France declared war upon Germany. They had the soviet German pact but, Barbarossa ended that and there was a massive attack rather than an actual declaration of war.

I would have said Poland...as the Germans fabricated the so-called 'Polish attack on the radio station' as an excuse for their invasion on September1, 1939. Andy.

Nothing new. Who bombs more countries than USA? Never dclare war though

No it may not be but, before it was asked by Bill I had never really given it much thought through my reading and, to be honest never seen it physically written down in any books regarding it.

 

I would imagine many not versed in WWII  would say Poland, as the flame that ignited the war. Possibly France, by some even England at a push. All the countries after Britain and France declared war on Germany were just occupied and I am not sure any declarations were given it was a free for all after  the Polish attack.

 

Its one of those things that like what was the ship in the Mutiny on the Bounty? that are specifically derived to get the wrong reply from people and, works on some. I had a training document once that had 70 questions of things you had to do, find, report to etc and the 70th question was disregard everything in the previous 69 questions and stay where you are
